When I purchased Gwen Slade, Bounty Hunter (Kindle Edition) by Sandra Cox, I expected dynamic action, a strong female lead, authentic Old West flavour and the perils for forbidden romance. What I got was all that, and more.
Author Sandra Cox weaves a tale with such finesse it's impossible to stop reading. And I certainly didn't expect that sly twist toward the end!
Characters are relatable, fraught with their own demons, consumed by their own desires and moral clashes, just trying to stay alive and healthy in the Old West - not an easy task! The story gallops along like a herd of mustangs but doesn't skimp on the little details that make a simple setting into a genuine experience, such as foam on the flanks of the horse and purple coneflowers in bloom.
Gwen's a favourite now! I heartily recommend this book, even to those who aren't usually into Westerns, as it purveys genuine engagement and style to surpass genre boundaries and leave the reader with an uplifting feeling as it all comes together. Thank you Sandra for this suspenseful and truly enjoyable adventure.
