Gritty rancher Reuben Hayes is floored when Sage Baylor, daughter of the only woman he's ever loved, shows up on his doorstep with a message from her departed mother. Throw in a gunslinger on the run, fast-paced action and a quirky cast of characters, and you have a five-star, highly recommended tale - even for people who don't normally read Westerns. Reuben Hayes is a rollicking ride and a joy to read, as author Sandra Cox expertly brings the rugged old West to life in thrilling descriptive glory. Strong characterization draws the reader in and helps craft a lively, compelling narrative to keep the pages turning. I was so engrossed in this tale I consumed it in almost one sitting.
Rugged and tough, living by his wits and gun all his life, Reuben Hayes finds he has an unexpected soft spot when Sage Baylor, daughter of the only woman he ever truly loved, steps into his life. And something seems strange about this young lady.
Her daddy, a Senator, is receiving death threats for trying to pass a new anti-lynching bill, and Sage is a target. Now, with bullets flying and homicidal hombres appearing out of nowhere, Reuben swears he will do anything he can to protect her, no matter what it takes.
Complications pile up, not least of all a gunslinger with one name, living life on the run, who takes work at Reuben's ranch. What could possibly go wrong?
Highly recommended!
